HARDING, OVERSON posted by Judy Warth on Tuesday, February 19, 2002
I recently came across a marriage between a Frank S HARDING and Mabel OVERSON on 16 May 1922 in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID in BYU's WESTERN STATES HISTORICAL MARRIAGE RECORD INDEX. I am hoping that this is the Frank Sherman HARDING that I have been scouring the state of CA for. My family was told that he died in CA in 1938, however I have found no death record there nor any directory or census listings. He was probably married once before the 1922 marriage and may have had a daughter named "Nita". Can anyone shed any information on any of the above indivuduals? Or direct me in how to go about finding death records, etc in ID? I am not sure, of course, that my relatives stayed in Nez Perce Co, but it's the only place I have to start. Thanks.

County Coordinator: There once was a Mason Prairie, which was the early name for Westlake, in Nez Perce County. The following is from the book "Idaho Place Names - A geographical dictionary" by Lalia Boone. University of Idaho Press, Moscow, Idaho, 1987. Westlake (Idaho County). 4080'. T32N R1W sec 18. In the NW part of the county, 9 mi S of Ferdinand on the edge of the Craig Mountain timber belt; 5 mi from Salmon River, which runs through a gorge at this point. Post Office 1893 - . Westlake townsite was located by J. B. Rice as a preemption. A store was built in 1889. Formerly Mason, for Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mason. Rivalry with a newer townsite, Morrow, resulted in a temporary discontinuance of the name Westlake. Named for the wife of the founder, Sarah Westlake Rice
