Lewiston Morning Tribune Wednesday, July 4, 1928 Gifford Pioneer Dead Mrs. Myra Ellen Wicks, Wife of William Wicks, Victim of Prolonged Illness - Funeral at Gifford Mrs. Myra Ellen Wicks, wife of William Wicks, pioneer resident of Gifford, passed away yesterday morning at St. Joseph's hospital, following a long illness from internal cancers. With the passing of Mrs. Wicks, the Gifford section loses one of its oldest pioneers and one of its most highly esteemed citizens. The deceased and her husband located near Gifford when the reservation was first opened to settlement. Their homestead was near the Beeman postoffice and when the town of Gifford was established, they moved into town and established a hotel, which they conducted for many years. They later returned to their homestead but several years ago they acquired the Louis Clark residence in Gifford and that has since been their home. Mrs. Wicks was born on February 3, 1866. She possessed those splendid traits of character that endeared her to all acquaintances. The funeral party will leave Lewiston at 9 o'clock this morning and the services will be conducted at the Gifford Methodist church on Thursday at 11 o'clock. The interment will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery at Gifford. The arrangements are by W. E. Stoddard. |
