Samuel D. White, 74, Is Called By Death

At 2:30 yesterday afternoon death claimed Samuel D. White, 74, resident of this community since 1900 and among its best known citizens. Death occurred at his home in Hatwai after a several-year illness.

Mr. White was born at Chicago, June 17, 1866, came to Lewiston 40 years ago and soon thereafter was appointed secretary of the Vollmer-Clearwater company, then operating flouring mills in Lewiston and other central Idaho towns, besides many elevators and warehouses. After several years as secretary he was placed in charge of the company's landed interests and collection department. He retired a few years before the company quit business and then engaged in farm loans. At one time he was interested in many farming enterprises.

Mr. White is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora White; five daughters and one son, Marion N. White, Chicago; Mrs. Charles E. Brown, Boise; Mrs. Douglas Eier, Lewiston; Mrs. Norman Fehr, Kuna; Dorothy White, student at Washington State college, and Frank White, attached to the United States air base at Anchorage, Alaska; one brother and two sisters, Prof. Alfred White, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Marion White and Jeanette White, both of Pasadena, Calif., and three grandchildren. He was a member of the Elks lodge.

The body is at the Vassar-Rawls chapel. Burial arrangements are pending.
