Lewiston Morning Tribune Elias W. White. The late Elias White, who died in the city on the 17th inst., was born in Wrentham, Mass., on the 26th day of September, 1816. He was a lineal descendant of Thomas White, who settled in the town of Weymouth, Mass., in 1630, and who was a member of the general assembly in 1636 and 1637. This branch of the White family was connected by marriage with the most prominent of the old colonial families of New England, many of whom have held prominent positions in making our country's history. The mother of the deceased was Esther Thayer, of Baintree, Mass. The Thayer family was among the earliest settlers in the colony of Massachusetts, coming to America soon after the landing of the Pilgrims. The founder of the family in this country was Richard Thayer, who came from the west of England and who was admitted a freeman in the city of Boston in 1640. They number among their connection many names made famous in the history of this country, among the most prominent being the Aldens, Adams, Bass, Billings, Copeland, French, Hobart, Jackson and White. |
