Lewiston Morning Tribune Wednesday, July 16, 1930 Mrs. Bert Whitman (sic) Called To Beyond Dies Suddenly Without Regaining Consciousness Following Operation. Came Here From Oregon in 1905. Mrs. Bert F. Whitcomb, 411 Adams street, for 25 years a resident of Lewiston and among the city's best known woman, died at White's hospital at 7:30 o'clock last evening after a major operation performed at 5 a.m. yesterday. She failed to regain consciousness following the operation. Mrs. Whitcomb had been active up to the time of entering the hospital and seemed in good physical condition but at 5 p.m. her condition took a decided turn for the worse. Came Here In 1905. Born at the Dalles, Ore., in 1891, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Cavin, she came here with her parents at the age of 14. In 1909 she was married to Mr. Whitcomb. She was well known as a worker in many civic activities and for the last 20 years had served in the regisration (sic) of voters and in conducting elections. Besides her husband she is survived by three children, Ruth Whitcomb and Frank Whitcomb, at home, and Mrs. M. M. Watson, Bend, Ore., her father, E. V. Cavin, Clarkston, and a brother, W. H. Cavin, also of Clarkston, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Bellamy, North Dakota, and Mrs. Ray Porter, Great Falls, Mont. Active In Lodge Work. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Latewa Temple of Pythian Sisters and of other organizations. The body is resting at the Vassar parlors. Funeral arrangements will not be made until relatives outside the city are heard from. |
