Lewiston Morning Tribune Wednesday, May 20, 1925 Stacy Wagner Is Dead Passed Away at Portland Following Operation - Was Well known Pioneer of Nezperce Prairie. Stacy Wagner, a well known and highly respected citizen of Clarkston, passed away at Portland yesterday morning about 10:30 following an operation. He had been in failing health for several months and had gone to a hospital in Portland hoping to find relief. A telegram had been received by Mrs. Wagner summoning her to his bedside but before she could go the message came advising her of his death. Mr. Wagner was about 60 years old, having been born in 1865 in Johnson county, Tennessee. When 19 years of age he came to Oregon, later moving to Moscow, Idaho. When the Nez Perce reservation was opened to settlers, he moved there with his family and took up a homestead near Fletcher. In 1911 they moved to Clarkston where, with the exception of two years when they resided in Prosser, they have since made their home. When Mr. Wagner was a young man he was united with the Baptist church. He was a man of sterling qualities, an upright and worth citizen who was held in high esteem by his friends and neighbors. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Amanda, who is teaching near Roseburg, Oregon, and Mary, who is a student in the high school. The body will arrive from Portland tomorrow morning, accompanied by W. T. Wagner, a cousin of Mr. Wagner, and H. T. Grant of Craigmont, Mrs. Wagner's brother, and Amanda Wagner. The funeral will probably be held at the home, corner of Seventh and Libby, tomorrow at 11 o'clock a.m. The burial will be made at the Craigmont cemetery. [He is buried in the Fletcher Cemetery in Lewis Co.] |
