Pioneer Woman Taken By Death

Ida Bunnell Thompson, 81, widow of the late S. Leslie Thompson and a resident of Lewiston for more than half a century, passed away in a hospital yesterday after a week's illness with a paralytic stroke.

Mrs. Thompson, the former Ida Bunnell, was born at Portland, Oct. 30, 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Bunnell. she came to Lewiston with her parents in 1888, when her father joined his brother, Charles C. Bunnell, in the operation of the community's first hardware business. The family resided at the old C. C. Bunnell home on Snake River avenue, then the city's principal residential district.

Ida Bunnell was married to S. Leslie Thompson, pioneer pharmacist of the city, in 1892. They resided at the old Samuel Thompson home, at Eighteenth and Main streets, and then constructed what was the second lath and plaster residence erected on Normal hill, which still stands at 225 First Ave. They resided there until Mr. Thompson's death on Sept. 8, 1938.

Mrs. Thompson was an active leader in Lewiston's early-day social and cultural affairs. She was a member of the old Cecilian club, sang in the Presbyterian and Methodist church choirs and was in the cast of many of the home-talent dramas which provided Lewiston with its theatrical entertainment in the early days. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.

Three Children Survive.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by three children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They include her son, Waldo B. Thompson, Lewiston; a daughter, Mrs. H. P. Magnuson, Moscow; a son by a former marriage, Frank P. Walker, San Francisco; and the grandchildren, Robert G. Thompson, Lewiston; Joyce E. Magnuson, Moscow, and Grace Walker and Bethel Walker, of California.
