Lewiston Morning Tribune Tuesday, October 16, 1923 Mrs. Tannahill Dead Stricken in Night After Evening Spent Among Friends - Funeral Wednesday Afternoon. Stricken with a fatal heart attack while she slept, Mrs. Ella Tannahill, wife of Samuel O. Tannahill, one of Lewiston's leading attorneys and a man well known over the northwest, was found dead in her bed yesterday morning at 6:30 o'clock, when Mr. Tannahill awakened, death evidently having occurred three or four hours before, according to physicians who were called. Last July Mrs. Tannahill suffered a heart stroke and from time to time her condition since then had caused her to receive medical attention, but of recent weeks a decided change for the better was noticed and her husband, who was her constant companion, was cheered with the very favorable progress toward a restoration of his wife's health. Sunday Mrs. Tannahill felt in fine spirits and the evening meal was enjoyed at a downtown restaurant. Upon returning home no complaint was made by the deceased relative to her not feeling well, nor when the time of retiring came did she show any signs but those attached to one enjoying good health. The transition from life to death evidently came without pain or struggle. As soon as the news of this estimable woman's passing was heard over the city, deep regret was expressed on all sides, fo rthe community as a whole held out to the stricken wife and Mr. Tannahill a true friendship and a very high esteem as to their citizenship. Born Ella Patterson, in Richmond, Ky., on April 17, 1877, Mrs. Tannahill was at the time of her death 46 years and six months of age, lacking two days. When the decedent was 14 years old her parents came west, locating first at Thornton, Wash., then at Springdale, Wash., and at Nezperce. On September 11, 1917, she because the wife of Samuel O. Tannahill and since that time her residence in this city had been continuous. Mrs. Tannahill endeared herself with all whom she came in contact, and her cheerful manner, even when ill, impressed her friends and showed her desire to spread sunshine in the lives of others. Mrs. Tannahill was a devoted adherent to the teachings of the Christian church. Surviving are the husband and two brothers, John and Meiners Lieullen, both residing at Rosalia, Wash. The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Vassar chapel. Interment will be in the Normal Hill cemetery. |
