Lewiston Morning Tribune Friday, July 17, 1936 Thomas Stevens, Pioneer, Passes A committal service will be held at Normal Hill cemetery at 3 o'clock this afternoon for Thomas Stevens, 78, who passed away at 11 o'clock Wednesday night at his home in Winchester. A church service will be held at Winchester this afternoon at 1 o'clock. Mr. Stevens was among the earliest settlers of the Craig mountain country. Born at Fort Douglas, Utah, April 9, 1858, he went with his parents to California at the age of three years and in 1884 came to Lewiston, remaining for a short time, then locating at what is now Winchester, at that time a part of Nez Perce county. He gradually increased his land holdings and at one time operated a farm of more than 800 acres. He was a brother of Mrs. Arthur B. Hinman, Lewiston, and of Richard Stevens, Stockton, Calif., formerly of Lewiston. Dave and Charles Harvey are nephews of Mr. Stevens. |
