Lewiston Morning Tribune Sunday, April 10, 1921 Two Suicide Near Forest Mother and Daughter Take Strychnine. Note States Intent No Reason Is Assigned Nezperce, April 9. - (Special to the Tribune.) The sheriff's office today received notice of the suicide of Mrs. Thomas Stevens and her daughter, Mrs. Gray Hasley [Hosley], at their ranch about five miles east of Forest. The message was received about 5 o'clock this afternoon and County Coroner John Gist was sent to the scene to hold an inquest. The two had taken strychnine and were discovered dead in the house by the husband of Mrs. Hasley. As near as can be learned here, no motive is assigned for the suicide, though the younger woman had spent some time in the sanitarium at Orofino, from which place she returned about six weeks ago. They are said to have left a note in which they announced their intention of taking their lives. The elder woman is about 50 years old and the daughter is about 26. Both leave families. |
