Lewiston Morning Tribune Tuesday, January 3, 1905 Mr. Steen Is Dead Well Known Citizen Passed Away Yesterday His Home Near Asotin Prominent as Northwest Pioneer and Sheepman - Possessed High and Splendid Qualities. Asotin, Wash., Jan. 2 - The death of R. P. Steen occurred at his home on Asotin creek near this place, about 5 o'clock this evening. For several days his death had been feared and his family, consisting of wife, son, and three daughters, were at his bedside when the sad event took place. The deceased was a northwest pioneer of most excellent character and fine business qualifications. For a number of years he was in the sheep business in Columbia county, Washington, and of which county he was at one time the sheriff. He removed to Nez Perce county some 16 years ago and was afterwards engaged with his son, R. R. Steen, in the sheep business on the upper Snake river. Several years ago he moved to and established his home on the Asotin creek, where he died. He is survived by his widow; his son R. R. Steen, of Lewiston, and three daughters, Mrs. George Rummens, Mrs. Bowyer, of Waha, Idaho, and Miss Etta Steen. The immediate cause of Mr. Steen's death was pneumonia. Throughout Mr. Steen's long residence in eastern Washington and Idaho he was always a popular man of high probity and character and he possessed the esteem and friendship of every community in which he resided. He was a member of the Clarkston lodge of the A. F. & A. M. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been announced. |
