Lewiston Morning Tribune Sunday, June 26, 1927 Mrs. Southwick Dead Nez Perce County Pioneer Succumbed Yesterday from Injuries Received in Fall - Was 80 Years Old. Southwick, June 25. - At 7:10 this morning, at the family home, Mrs. Martha Southwick, wife of Stephen R. Southwick, passed away, death resulting from injuries received one week ago when she suffered a fall within her home and sustained a serious injury to one of her hips. Up to that time Mrs. Southwick, in view of her advanced age, 80, had enjoyed good health. The deceased with her husband located at the village of Southwick 44 years ago. The town was named after them and the first postmaster serving the place was Mr. Southwick. The old home was the scene of many gatherings, Mrs. Southwick and her husband being great favorites with persons residing for miles around. Mrs. Southwick was a woman of admirable Christian characteristics, a loving wife and a fond and devoted mother. She was a native of Illinois and was united in marriage to Mr. Southwick 64 years ago. In religion Mrs. Southwick was a life-long member of the Christian church, and the funeral service will be in accordance with the rites of that denomination. Surviving are a husband, four sons and four daughters, these being; LeRoy of Southwick, for many years chairman of the board of commissioners of Nez Perce county; Harve of Lenore; Albert of Reubens, and Edward of Alberta; Mrs. Myrtle Davis and Mrs. Mattie Brown both of Los Angeles; Mrs. Mary Daggett of Lenore, and Mrs. Emma Terry of Cavendish. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed, this depending on the time of arrival of the children from distant points. |
