Lewiston Morning Tribune Tuesday, August 10, 1937 George Simon, 90, Victim Of Stroke Former Idaho County Commissioner and Prominent Cottonwood Farmer Taken at Home of Son, Fred Simon. Cottonwood, Aug. 9 - George Simon, 90, former commissioner of Idaho county representing the second district, and for 28 years prominently identified with the farming industry of Cottonwood, died at 8:30 this morning at the home of his son, Fred Simon. He recently suffered a stroke and continued to grow weaker. Born at Lancaster, Ohio, Sept. 21, 1846, and married there Dec. 17, 1873, to Mary Frances Shaeffer, who died March 15, 1935, he came west in 1893 and located on a farm near Cottonwood, now owned by M. A. Pierce. He retired in 1921 and moved with his wife to Lewiston and since her death spent much of his time at the homes of his children here, at Lewiston and Pullman. During his many years' residence he was an influence in this community. Mr. Simon was a life-long member of the Lutheran church. Rites To Be Wednesday Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. W. M. Schiller, Lewiston; three sons, Fred Simon and Frank Simon, Cottonwood, and Bart Simon, Pullman; a brother, S. H. Simon, Amanda, Ohio; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 Wednesday afternoon from the community church at Cottonwood and the body will be taken to Lewiston, where a graveside service will be held at 4:15 that day. |
