Lewiston Morning Tribune Thursday, June 11, 1942 Mrs. Nita Shafer, 65, Is Called By Death Mrs. Nita Shafer, 65, wife of John Shafer, pioneers of Nez Perce county, died at her home in Rimrock precinct at 9:30 yesterday morning of heart disease. The end came without warning. Mrs. Shafer had been talking over the telephone and became faint. She called her husband for a glass of water and expired almost immediately. Mrs. Shafer, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Shafer, was born in Tucker county, West Virginia, Sept. 6, 1876, and had resided in the Rimrock-Genesee area 43 years. She was active in social and civic work in her community and was a member of the Christian church. Mrs. Shafer leaves her husband, John Shafer; two children, Mrs. Edna Fox, Pullman, and C. A. Shafer, Walla Walla; one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Daisy Montgomery, Vancouver, Wash., and W. Porter Shafer, Lewiston, and Parker S. Shafer, Kellogg; also three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 Saturday from the Brower-Wann chapel with interment at Normal Hill cemetery. |
