Lewiston Morning Tribune Tuesday, October 7, 1919 Wallace Scott Dead Prominent Idaho Pioneer and Financier Dead at Grangeville From Leakage of Heart - Remains Be Brought Here for Interment. Wallace Scott, central Idaho pioneer, prominent in banking circles and perhaps the wealthiest citizen of Idaho county, passed away at 1 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in Grangeville from leakage of the heart. Mr. Scott was about 88 years of age and had been in failing health for the past several weeks. Mr. Scott came to Idaho in the early seventies with the late John P. Vollmer and for a period he was in Lewiston and was identified with Mr. Vollmer in the management of a mercantile business. In about 1875 he removed to Mount Idaho where he opened a general merchandise store and later removed to Grangeville where he had since made his home. Mr. Scott continues his business association with Mr. Vollmer in the mercantile business here for many years and in 1883 joined with Mr. Vollmer in the organization of the banking institution now known as the First National bank and of which he was a director at the time of his death. Mr. Scott organized and retained chief interest in the First National bank of Grangeville, which succeeded the firm of Vollmer & Scott. He was also a member of the banking firm of Baumeister, Vollmer & Scott at Asotin, and was interested with Mr. Baumeister in the mercantile business. He acquired extensive real estate interests, having large holdings of farm lands in Nez Perce and Idaho counties and was interested with Mr. Vollmer in valuable Lewiston property. Mr. Scott was a gentleman who enjoyed the highest regard of all who knew him. He was of kind disposition and found much pleasure in giving assistance to those in need. The smaller school children of Grangeville have been his special charges for many years and the little folks of the schools enjoyed many treats at his hands. Mrs. Scott passed away about 12 years ago and her remains were brought to Lewiston for interment. The remains of Mr. Scott will be brought to Lewiston this forenoon and the funeral will be conducted from the Vassar chapel at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon. He is survived by a sister, Miss Rebekah Scott, who arrived from Rushville, Ill., Saturday evening, and an adopted son, Warren Scott, with whom he made his home in Grangeville. |
