Pioneer Cattle Man Passes Away

August Schroeder, among the finest men to engage in the cattle business along the Salon river and who later devoted himself to farming on an extensive scale in the Cottonwood and Keuterville sections, passed away at St. Joseph's hospital at 7 o'clock last night from an abscess of the brain. He had been ill two weeks. His home was at 1226 Elm street, Clarkston, where he moved one and one-half years ago.

He was born at New Holstein, Wis., 64 years ago and at the age of 20 he located at Walla Walla. He remained there for two years and then places his belongings on a pack horse and went to Cottonwood. He was among the best known men on Camas prairie.

Leaves Nine Children

Besides a widow he leaves nine children, five sons and four daughters, these being, Bert Schroeder, Lewiston, Edwin Schroeder, Poplar, Mont.; Rudolph Schroeder, Cottonwood; Karsten Schroeder, Seattle; August Schroeder, Jr., Phoenix, Ariz; Mrs. Roy Widsom, Riggins; Mathilda Schroeder, Kellogg; Marjorie Schroeder and Edna Schroeder, both living at home; also one brother and four sisters, George Schroeder and Mrs. Herman Muenster, both of New Holstein, Wis.; Mrs. Fred Wenzell, Two Rivers, Wis.; Mrs. Mamie Gibson, Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. Frank Holdenried, Kelseyville, Cal.

The body is at the Brower-Wann establishment. Funeral services will probably be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, this depending on word received from relatives.
