Victim Of Accident

Manuel Joe Sanchoez Suffered Concussion of Brain When Thrown From Coal Chute Trailer in Peace Demonstration Yesterday.

Manuel Joe Sanchoez, for many years a resident of the Lewiston country, was killed yesterday when he was thrown from a coal chute hitched behind an auto truck and upon which he had been riding in the peace celebration. The coal chute had been attached to the auto-truck early in the forenoon and for several hours had been occupied by citizens in the parades through the business district. Mr. Sanchoez had been a passenger on the chute for several trips before he was thrown into an automobile and the curb in front of the fire station on Third street.

The auto truck was traveling west on D street and the chute upon which Mr. Sanchoez was riding skidded in such a manner that he was thrown into the automobile standing on the west side of Third street and directly south of the city hall building. He was rendered unconscious and passed away within a short time, the view being expressed by Dr. Johnson that he had suffered concussion of the brain. Witnesses were unable to state whether Mr. Sanchoez was injured when he struck the automobile or when he landed against the street curb.

Mr. Sanchoez came to Lewiston more than twenty years ago and for several years was employed by the late J. D. C. Thiessen. Later he accepted employment with the late James Madden and was an employee of the Madden ranch for about fourteen years. About a year ago he purchased a small tract in Clarkston but last spring accepted employment with the Clearwater Ranch company, having charge of the sheep during the summer.

Mr. Sanchoez was about 74 years of age and leaves no known relatives. He was born in New Mexico but had told friends that he had no relatives that he knew of. He was a man who enjoyed the high regard of his employers and the men with whom he was associated.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the cemetery.
