Lewiston Morning Tribune Friday, May 4, 1900 Death of Sylvester Riggs. The End Came at About 12:20 O'clock Last Night. Sylvester Riggs died at 12:20 o'clock last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Madden, on Normal Hill. The cause of his death was heart disease. Mr. Riggs had been in failing health for some months past and moved to Lewiston from his Waha home about six weeks ago to secure medical attention. Until last Tuesday his condition was much improved. On that day, he felt quite strong and during the afternoon he took a carriage ride in the city. Shortly after returning home he seemed to suffer a relapse and since that time he gradually grew weaker until the end came last night. The deceased has long been a resident of Nez Perce county and his death will be mourned by a large circle of friends. He came to Idaho about sixteen years ago from California and located in the Waha country, engaging in the farming and sheep-raising business. Later, he purchased the Lake house at Waha lake and conducted that well-known pleasure resort for a number of years, and until he leased the property last summer. He was a man whose actions at all times were governed by a high sense of righteousness and he was honored by all who know him. He leaves a widow and three adult children survive him. His children are Mrs. James Madden and Mrs. M. Mitchell of this city, and George D. Riggs of Waha. To the relatives the sympathy of the community will be extended in their bereavement.
