Lewiston Morning Tribune Tuesday, September 28, 1937 Dr. Jesse L. Rains Passes At Seattle Practiced at Grangeville, Lewiston and Oakley Until 1923 - Claimed to Be First Registered U. of I. Student. Dr. Jesse L. Rains, native to Idaho county, former practitioner at Grangeville, Lewiston and Oakley, died at 11:35 o'clock yesterday morning at Seattle, where he located 14 years ago. He was born at Warren, his parents being among the earliest settlers in the mining camp. His father was murdered by Sheep Eater Indians during the uprising. Dr. Rains was a graduate at the University of Idaho and claimed to be the first registered student. He received his medical education at the Jefferson medical school at Philadelphia, and after practicing in Idaho county moved to Lewiston, remaining several years before going to Oakley. Widow, four Children Survive Survivors include a widow, May Rains; four children, Lewis Rains, connected with the Diamond Match Co., San Francisco; Mrs. Mary Rains Gibbony, David Rains and Dorothy Rains. Mrs. Rains is a daughter of Mrs. S. Wildenthaler and a sister of Mrs. J. E. Kincaid, Lewiston, her marriage to Dr. Rains taking place here in 1908. Mrs. Kincaid and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kincaid, visiting here from Seattle, will leave this morning for the funeral to be held tomorrow. |
