Lewiston Morning Tribune Wednesday, July 16, 1924 Oregon Preacher Drowned. Albany, Ore., July 15 - Rev. Francis Nugen, 22, pastor of the South Methodist church at Peoria, Ore., was drowned near there today while working with a crew of men rolling logs into the river. Rev. Mr. Nugen came to Peoria from Idaho a short time ago. The man was drowned while trying to swim to shore from a raft of logs on which he and two other men were working. Lewiston Morning Tribune Bring Body To Lewiston Rev. Nugen, formerly of Sweetwater, Was Drowned at Albany. The body of Rev. Francis Nugen, pastor of the Methodist church at Albany, Ore., who met accidental death by drowning last Tuesday by falling from a raft, will arrive in Lewiston this morning from Portland, accompanied by the widow and her infant son, and Mrs. L. L. Williams of Gifford. Rev. Nugen for about one year served as pastor of the Sweetwater church and he is well remembered throughout that section for his Christian work. Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Nugen's mother, is a sister of Mrs. J. F. Rice and Mrs. Joe Frazier, both of Lewiston. Funeral services for Rev. Nugen will be conducted at Gifford tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, the remains to be laid to rest in the village cemetery. |
