Killed By Fall

T. B. Murphy Lost Balance on Clearwater Bridge.

Skull Was Fractured

Unfortunate Man Had Endeavored to Reach Point of Safety While Car Passed.

T. B. Murphy, who has been about the city at intervals for the past year, was killed by a fall from the Clearwater railroad bridge yesterday afternoon. He was crossing the bridge to North Lewiston when a handcar in charge of Section Foreman Fred Felton of Wilma came onto the bridge from the north. Murphy endeavored to reach a place of safety at the side of the bridge and lost his balance, falling to the gravel below, a distance of about forty feet.

The unfortunate man was rushed to the hospital and his injuries were attended by Dr. O. C. Carssow, but he died without recovering consciousness. The examination made by Dr. Carssow showed that Murphy had received the force of the fall on his head and sustained a fracture at the base of the skull, a fracture of the upper and lower jaws and other injuries of a fatal character.

Murphy had reached a point on the bridge near the south water edge and his body rolled into the water after striking the gravel. Little is known of him here and a search of his clothing failed to disclose the location of relatives or friends. He first appeared in Lewiston over a year ago and worked on farms in the Lewiston country during the harvest season of 1913. He was absent from the city during the winter, but returned again early last summer and was about the city at frequent intervals during the past three months.

Murphy was about 45 years of age and had given his birthplace as Brooklyn, N. Y. He was about 5 feet 7 inches in height, weighed about 145 pounds, brown hair, gray eyes and generally smooth shaven. The body will be held at the Vassar undertaking parlors in an effort to locate relatives, the view being held that some of the Lewiston country farmers may know where relatives ar located. Any person knowing of the location of relatives are requested to communicate with Coroner Vassar.
