Mrs. Rose E. McGarvey, 91, 70-Year Resident of Lewis-Clark Empire, Dead

Mrs. Rose E. McGarvey, 91, a resident of north central Idaho since 1893, died at 3:30 yesterday morning at the Lewiston Manor nursing home where she had been a patient 34 months. Mrs. McGarvey had been seriously ill four weeks. Death was due to the infirmities of age.

She was the widow of Robert W. McGarvey, a logger and farmer, who died in 1953.

Mrs. McGarvey was born May 21, 1876, at Richmond, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Wood.

She married Denver Byers at Sigourney, Iowa Feb. 9, 1891. They moved west the following year, settling first at Staley, Wash., where they built their own log cabin and farmed.

Moving to Troy, Ida., in 1893, when the area was first opening up, she and Byers operated a farm. He died in 1908 and she married McGarvey in August, 1909 at Troy.

McGarvey was engaged in logging at Troy and Mrs. McGarvey often worked as a camp cook.

They moved to Genesee in 1920 and farmed there until 1941, when they sold out and moved to Lewiston. Mrs. McGarvey lived at 611 26th St. before entering the nursing home.

She was a member of the Nazarene Church at Troy.

Mrs. McGarvey is survived by two sons, Walter McGarvey and Wayland McGarvey, both of Lewiston; three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd V. (Dora) Randall and Mrs. John (Ava) Swecker, both of Clarkston, and Mrs. Gertie Hickman, Moscow; 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Belle Reinier, Muscatine, Iowa, and Mrs. Mamie Carpenter, Webster City, Iowa.

The funeral will be held Monday morning at 10 at the Brower-Wann Chapel, with the Rev. J. Wilmer Lambert, pastor of the Lewiston Nazarene Church, as officiant. Burial will be at Normal Hill Cemetery.

Lewiston, Idaho - Funeral services for Mrs. Rose E. McGarvey, 91, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Brower-Wann Chapel, with the Rev. J. Wilmer Lambert officiating and burial will be in Normal Hill Cemetery. Mrs. McGarvey died at a Lewiston nursing home where she had been a patient for about three years.

Mrs. McGarvey was born May 21, 1876, at Richmond, Iowa. She married Denver Byers at Sigourney, Iowa, Feb. 9, 1891, and they moved in 1892 to Staley, Wash., where they farmed. In 1893 they moved to Troy, Idaho. Byers died in 1908 and she married Robert McGarvey in 1909 at Troy. They moved to a Genesee farm in 1920, and moved to Lewiston in 1941. He died in 1953.

She was a member of the Nazarene Church at Troy.

Survivors include two sons, Walter McGarvey and Wayland McGarvey, both of Lewiston; three daughters, Mrs. Dora Randall and Mrs. Ava Swecker, both of Clarkston, and Mrs. Gertie Hickman, Moscow; 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren and two sisters in Iowa.
