Lewiston Morning Tribune Wednesday, May 2, 1928 Prominent Nez Perce Dead Mrs. Joe McCormick [McCormack] Victim of Heart Attack Near Lapwai. Lapwai, May 1. - Mrs. Joe McCormick, 48, well known Nez Perce Indian woman, died this morning at the family home below Lapwai of heart trouble. The funeral will be held from the Indian Methodist church Thursday at 10 a.m. and the burial will be in the family burying ground. Mrs. McCormick was a daughter of the late Judge James Grant, former Indian police and interpreter at the Indian agency. Her husband, Joe McCormick, distinguished himself last winter by the rescue of a family from an island in the Clearwater blow Arrow junction. Surviving are her husband and four children, Lizzie, Rena, Harry and Levi; her mother, Mrs. James Grant; a sister, Mrs. Matt White; a brother, Abel Grant, and an aunt, Mrs. Ellen Grant. |
