Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 for A. F. McCollum, 80, who died yesterday at the Orofino hospital after a short illness. He was born at Benton, Ill., June 9, 1859, and moved to Moscow in 1888. Mr. and Mrs. McCollum moved to Orofino in 1909. He operated the ferry across the Clearwater river until 1912. From 1912 until 1923 he farmed in the Canyon creek vicinity and in 1923 purchased the Merrill house here and operated it until his death.

Central Idaho Resident Since 1880 Is Buried At Cemetery In Lewiston

Orofino, Nov. 6

Funeral services were held yesterday for A. F. McCollum, 80, who died at the Orofino hospital Wednesday after a short illness. The Rev. George Cooper conducted the services with vocal selections by Mrs. Linsay Beeson, accompanied at the organ by Charles Strom. Interment was in Normal Hill cemetery, Lewiston.

Mr. McCollum was born at Benton, Ill., June 9, 1859, and came west in 1880, settling first at Moscow. He located in 1895 on the Nez Perce Indian reservation near what is known as Summit. The postoffice at Summit was established on the McCollum homestead, Mrs. McCollum being the first postmistress, serving until 1904. In 1908, the McCollums moved to Kennewick but returned in the spring of 1909 to settle at Orofino. The Orofino ferry across the Clearwater river was operated by Mr. McCollum until 1912 when he purchased a ranch in the Canyon country and farmed there until 1923. At that time he moved to Orofino and purchased the Merrill house, which he operated until the time of his death. He is survived by his widow, Effie Bracy McCollum, Orofino, and a daughter, Mrs. Paul Hyatt, Lewiston.
