Mrs. Anna Martin Passes To Reward

Long and Useful Life Spent in Church and Community Betterment Work.

Mrs. Anna Martin, wife of M. L. Martin, 1112 Eighth avenue, departed from this life at 11 o'clock p.m., August 4, after a struggle of many months with a lingering illness which gradually overcame her. She was born July 22, 1856, near Leavenworth, Kan., on a farm. She was the daughter of Jedadiah and Mariah Olmstead.

She is survived by her father, who was 89 years old on the 5th of last March, and who now lives in Tonkana, Okla.; also two brothers and one sister, John C. Olmstead of Ripley, Okla.; Benjamin F. Olmstead of Udoll, Kan., and Mrs. Anna Walker of Mulhall, Okla. In her immediate family she is survived by her husband, M. L. Martin; two sons, A. O. Martin of Nezperce and C. M. Martin of Kalama, Wash. and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Crawford, of Alhambra, Cal. Two sons, E. P. Martin and Fred L. Martin, have passed on before.

Morgan L. Martin and Anna Olmstead were united in marriage at the Olmstead homestead near Udoll, Kan., Jan. 17, 1876, taking up at once their residence on a farm near Winfield, Kan., where they lived until April, 1886, when they removed to the Cottonwood region. There they acquired a ranch, where they resided continuously until 1901. They were among the earliest settlers of Idaho county, their ranch being at that time on the south line of the Nez Perce reservation, on Stock creek.

At that time they made their first trip to their old home in Kansas, visiting with relatives and friends in many states in the middle west. On this trip, which lasted six months, they attended the Pan-American exposition at Buffalo and visited many of the cities of the Atlantic seaboard.

In August, 1903, they moved to Lewiston and have since made their home here.

From early life Mrs. Martin was a member of the Christian church, being actively interested in the affairs of the church, both in Kansas and after coming to Idaho.

Since coming to Lewiston in 1903 she has been a faithful worker and attendant of the local Christian church. She was also active in work of the associated charities and in the organization of the W. C. T. U. among whose members she has always been held in high esteem. Her helpful influence will be missed by those who have been associated with her in the many activities in which she was interested.

The funeral will be held in the chapel at Vassar's at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon. Interment will be in the Normal Hill cemetery.
