Lewiston Teller Lewiston, Idaho, April 16, 1896 Death of John D. Kester. John D. Kester, the active business man who was always strong and worked so hard for many years is dead. Although not unexpected the news of his death which was received Monday morning was a shock. It was known that he was sick, that he had gone to Spokane for treatment, but we are never prepared for sad news. He was brought to his home on Monday night. Service was held in the Church of Nativity on Tuesday at two o'clock, Rev. McConkey officiating. The church was fittingly decorated. The insignia of sorrow were every where. The friends were bowed down with grief. The Rev. McConkey announced that the memorial service would he held at some future date. The secret orders attended in uniform. The friends did him the last honors nobly. The procession which passed thorough the streets which had been the scene of his busy life for so many years formed an impressive scene. J. D. Kester was born in Canada, Sept. 14, 1847. He came to the United States in early manhood. He married Lillie K. Gordon in California in 1870. He came to Lewiston In 1872 and soon after engaged in the truck and dray business, which he kept up until his death. A wife and four children survive him. They have the sympathy of all. Mr. Kester had a wide circle of friends and they all honor his name.
