Spokane Daily Chronicle Sat., Feb. 7, 1953 Palouse Pioneer Dies In Hospital Lewiston, Idaho, Feb. 7 - Charles M. Flatt, 83, early north Idaho resident who homesteaded at Nezperce in 1896, died yesterday morning at Tri-State Memorial hospital in Clarkston, where he had been a patient for three weeks. Born at Eldred, Ill., April 2, 1869, he came west to the Palouse country in 1891 and and in 1896 moved to Nezperce, where he married the former Anne Reese January 12, 1898. They lived at Nezperce until moving to Clarkston in 1947. Flatt was a member of the United Brethren church. Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alice VanAusble, Pomeroy, and Mrs. Alma Anderson, Moscow; six sons, John B., Twin Falls, Idaho; Charles L. Moscow; Clifton T., Kington, Idaho; Earl R., Portland, Ore.; Harold C., Libby Mont., and Clarence E. Flatt, Clarkston; one brothers, John Flatt, Clarkston; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 Monday afternoon at Merchant's funeral home, the rev. Elmer Atkinson officiating. Burial will be at Normal Hill cemetery. |
