Lewiston Morning Tribune Friday, June 10, 1921 Wesley Akers Called Lewiston Pioneer of 1879 Passed Away Yesterday. After a brief illness, Wesley Akers, a Lewiston pioneer, passed away at seven o'clock yesterday morning at the home of George White on Twenty-Fourth street. Mr. Akers had reached the business district to enter upon his day's employment when he was taken ill. Shortly after reaching the White home the death summons came as the result of heart disease, developing from a stomach ailment. Until within the past few days he appeared to be enjoying normal good health. Mr. Akers, who was 66 years old, having been born in Illinois on June 6, 1855, came to Lewiston in 1879. In 1882 in this city he was united in marriage with Emma Giffin, whose death occurred in 1919. He is survived by five children - Mrs. Sam Wheatcroft, who is residing in Montana; Clarence and Earl of Snow, Idaho, and Hilbert and Evie of Lewiston. He is also survived by three brothers - George, Bert and Robert Smith of Seattle. For many years Mr. Akers resided in Lewiston and at one time served the city as marshal. In later years he engaged in farming in the Webb Ridge section, retiring from this occupation three years ago. He spent last winter at his old home in Illinois, upon his return speaking with enthusiasm of the pleasures of the visit. It is probable that the funeral will be held Saturday but definite arrangements will not be made until word is received from the daughter in Montana. |
