Lewiston, Idaho, September 28, 1882
Stannus - At Independence, Oregon, Sept. 15, 1882, of typhoid fever, Zella, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Stannus, aged 7 years and 9 days.
Mr. and Mrs. Stannus are well and favorably known in this section. Mrs. S., a short time ago had gone to Independence to reside and it is thought the child contracted the disease before they left here. The sympathy of the entire community are with the bereaved parents.
We announced last week the death of the eldest child of L. Stannus and wife at Independence, Ogn., where Mrs. Stannus and her two children have been stopping some weeks. On Saturday eve, a telegram was received that his youngest child was very sick and not expected to live and for him to go as soon as possible to Independence. Mr. S. started Sunday. We deeply regret this misfortune of Mr. and Mrs. Stannus. They have been in our vicinity for several years and have borne a good character, as industrious, enterprising and honest people, deserving of the confidence of all who knew them.
