Mrs. Ora Smith Taken By Death

Mrs. Ora Smith, a resident of Lewiston and Lewiston Orchards since 1922, died at St. Joseph's Hospital yesterday morning at 4. Death was attributed to a heart ailment.

Mrs. Smith was born at Kidder, S. D., Jan. 19, 1883. She was married June 18, 1902 at Forman, S. D., to Calvin Hartman Chapin.

They moved to Portland in 1911 and in 1919 to Stanfield, Ore. They moved to Lewiston Orchards in 1922, where they cared for several tracts of orchards.

In the late 1920s Mr. and Mrs. Chapin operated the Clearwater Hotel on East Main St. until his death in 1933. As a widow, Mrs. Chapin also operated the River view Hotel, also on East Main for several years. The hotels provided both room and board and were popular among railroad employees.

She married Ode Smith on July 17, 1945, at Missoula, Mont. Mr. Smith died in 1949. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Lewiston Church of Christ.

She is survived by two sons, Jess Chapin and Don Chapin, both of Lewiston Orchards; a brother, Harry White, Matqusi, British Columbia; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 at Brower-Wann Chapel. Burial will be at Normal Hill Cemetery.
