Pioneer Rancher Succumbs At 82

Harley Thomas Smith, 82, a stock rancher in the Uniontown and Genesee area for more than 40 years, died at his home here yesterday morning at 7:20. He lived on the North & South Highway between Lewiston and the Spalding bridge. He had been ill three years.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 9, 1873, in Monroe County, Iowa. On June 9, 1894, he married Rosetta Temple in Appanoose County, Iowa. They came west that year and settled in Uniontown. In 1897 they moved to Genesee, where they lived until coming to Lewiston in 1935.

He was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors, besides his wife, include a daughter, Mrs. Gretchen Arlt, at Hermiston, Ore., and a son, Glen, at the family home.

Funeral services will be held at Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel, with burial in Normal Hill Cemetery. The date has not been set. The Rev. James O. York of the Lewiston First Christian Church will officiate.
