Lewiston Morning Tribune Wednesday, March 6, 1912 Death Of Young Man. Written Message Left Indicates His Name Is Montgomery. Edward Montgomery, aged about nineteen years, died last evening at the county hospital from cancer of the face, from which he had been a sufferer for the past several months. Montgomery came to Lewiston last fall with the carnival company and during the early winter worked about the city. About three months ago his condition became so critical that he was removed to the county hospital for treatment. Montgomery when taken to the hospital gave his name as Edward Smith, and told Superintendent Stranahan that he had lost trace of his relatives. After his death his true name, it is believed, was discovered on a tablet at the head of his bed with the following instructions: "Wire O. Ashton, Winchester, Indiana. He will do the rest." Last night advices of the young man's death were sent to the Indiana address by Coroner C. J. Vassar and the funeral arrangements will not be made pending an answer to the message.

Montgomery was a young man who came to Lewiston last fall with the carnival company. He gave his name as Edward Smith and was so known until information was disclosed after he had been taken to the hospital which showed his name was Montgomery. The funeral will be held today from the Vassar chapel. |
